Elections
As the first person from my family to go to University, I feel incredibly privileged to be able put myself forward for this position. I am currently a second year Biomedical Science student; I also have a 50 hour volunteer award, have trained and worked as a peer mentor and I was ambassador at my school sixth form.
If elected as Women’s Campaigns Chair I have three key areas I would like to focus on;
1. Females CAN have it all. I would like to introduce guest speakers to give the women at Plymouth University the confidence to go into the world as Graduates and fight for their dream job. They will give real life examples for fighting the glass ceiling and proving to you that this is no longer a man’s world.
2. Outreach to mothers at University. As students we all know that time management is key, which is why I have such respect for students with children. I would like to begin working with mothers at university by organising afternoon socials, where we will discuss any issues, be them childcare, deadlines, breastfeeding etc.
3. Social attitudes towards female students. I am extremely passionate about this part of my campaign. Speaking and listening groups will challenge why, in 2012, women are still under scrutiny about their relationships. Female self defence classes will compliment the listening groups giving women the confidence to be whoever they want to be, be this within University or in their private life.
