About
We are a well-established and highly motivated Muay Thai club. Muay Thai is an exciting ring sport comprising punches, kicks, knees, clinches, and throws. It is incredibly good for your fitness, will build your cardio and strength, as well as being a devastating striking discipline commonly used in MMA.
We welcome all abilities and all ages. Our tailored classes allow those with no previous experience to quickly develop technique and boost their ability. We are the biggest martial arts club in the university, and this is simply down to the professionalism of our coach and the friendly atmosphere we create to ensure everyone gets the most out of their training session.
Bring your own boxing gloves/shin guards/striking pads if you have them, but the club has kit dedicated for members in case you don't.
Training
Our training times are:
Wednesday: 18:00 - 20:00
Friday: 18:00 - 20:00
Sunday: 15:00 - 17:00
Each session is run in Thomas Pitts Hall, located opposite Robbins Halls.
Please do not attend training if you show any symptoms relating to Covid-19.
Pricing
Each of the coached sessions (Wed/Fri/Sun) is £3 with discounts when buying session packs and your first session is free.
Membership for the year costs £15. All of these products are available on this page.
You can also come to a session to watch if you’d like to see if Muay Thai offers what you are looking for.
Socials
Get to know the people you’re training with! We often go out for a few drinks after training sessions to unwind. We also plan socials throughout the year, previously they have included:
- Themed nights (drinking+non drinking)
- Watch fight nights
- Awards evenings
- And many more!!
Events
Our events include hosting and participating in interclubs. Interclubs provide an opportunity for those that wish to showcase their ability in a controlled environment and challenge other competitors from other universities. This is a great chance to push your ability and test it against somebody else. All events of this nature are strictly controlled and participants must pass a fitness and ability test set out by our coach. These events are also a good chance to spectate and support your club and university.
At UPTK we are big on charity, we like to do a couple of events a year to help benefit others. Previous events have included:
- Plymouth half marathon
- A 12-hour sparring session
- Movember
This year our intentions are to boost this exposure further; we have some great ideas that don't all include physical exertion!
