► President's Role

President

The President’s role is one of the most diverse of the sabbatical positions giving a large range of responsibilities and some great experience in many fields. Any person wishing to do this position must be hard working and committed to UPSU and the student experience at the University. The job involves a great deal of emails, meeting and reports so if these are not your strong points then this probably isn’t the job for you, that said I have developed into the position from a start where these probably weren’t my greatest strengths.

Another important relationship within the university is between the President and the Vice-Chancellor (VC). It is possible to communicate freely with the VC through emails and the monthly VC meetings to ensure the VC is brought up to date with all issues effecting students. This is further ensured by fortnightly meetings with the Dean of Students to ensure all students issues are covered and responded to in an appropriate manner.

Students in the community is also a large factor on the President’s role as you are responsible for meeting with local police and community groups to ensure good relations between the local community and students. Through this you can engage in many local groups and get involved in many local projects to improve relations.

As President I am the public face of UPSU and am responsible for the vast majority of public interviews and press releases given out by the Union including the new blog on the This is Plymouth website.
