Hello! I am Erick Vanselow, a German student, although most people doubt I’m German at all due to my rather “English sounding accent!” I study International Relations & Business, which coincidentally sounds more complicated and fun than it really is! Also I took some time off University, so I’m like a “mature fresher” heading towards the big twenty-two soon!
I feel like I’d be a great person for this role for several reasons. One key issue being I love to campaign for change. Even better, I love to make a difference to other peoples’ lives where I can, especially students! I feel that our student years are our best years, so we might as well work together in ensuring this tiny, yet vital dream to us all comes true! This shall be done by making sure we have the best official student nights, competitive prices and that we all have a cracking time whilst at university, but still get our work done in a timely, brilliant fashion!
Whilst at college here, I was a member of my Students Union and was in charge of starting a new magazine (the first ever), which was run by the students, for the students. I also campaigned to make sure prices at the SU shop remained affordable, yet still profitable for the big guys! I will aim to carry on the trail for change at Plymouth and form long-term bonds with those in charge to make our life at university as fun and exciting as possible: we all know how lectures, late deadlines etc can bring us down!
I currently work as a DJ part time, also design a clothing line, campaign with Amnesty International and produce music in my spare time, so in a way fairly a busy chap! I like to stay active where I can as we only get one shot at this life: besides sleep seems a chore and waste of time!
I am a very tolerant person due to my travels around the world, which has opened my eyes towards new cultures and beliefs. This has taught me the importance of variety, people being different, as well as how to respond appropriately in each instance, which is a part of what I’ll have to do with you here at the Union. As we all hate long lectures and speeches, I’ll make the messages to be relayed back as brief and concise as possible!
You should vote for me as I aim to strengthen the existing bonds at the UPSU, as well as form new and exciting ones which will benefit you as a student in particular (any ideas will be welcome to me at any time or queries). In addition to this, I’ll ensure a stronger relation between the student and the Union reaching a comfortable compromise for both parties as far as activities and communications are concerned.
