I’ve worked in the UPSU for over a year, with the Ents Department, and The Hive. Working in The Hive means I interact with many students on a daily basis and get to find out what they want from their SU. I’m a second year Events Management Student, I have many ideas about how to improve activities in the SU and raise the profile of UPSU. I was part of my local Youth Council, we campaigned for many things that we thought young people had a right to, this taught me to fight for the things I believe in and how to represent others.
I’m passionate about UPSU, having worked there for some time now, I hold UPSU very close to my heart, I want to see it thrive and be the best that it can be. I have lots of ideas on how to achieve this and I know that if I am given the chance I will do this great Students’ Union justice. I want UPSU to be something all Students are proud of, a place where they know that not only can they have a good time, but a place where their voices and opinions will be heard.
What I want;
A lot more student interaction, it’s your union, so tell us how you feel. Whether it’s the weekend’s football results; or what you want from UPSU, I intend to get your views heard. I want a roaming camera around campus asking students for their opinions. These videos will then be uploaded on www.upsu.com and forums opened, discussing the issues raised.
Carry on the progress of UPSU Radio. I think that UPSU Radio is a fantastic venture, and I’d like to take it further, with weekly podcasts from various presenters, uploaded to the website. These podcasts should be played during the day throughout the union, for all of you to hear, there’s nothing more exciting than having thousands of students listening to your radio show!
Increase distribution and sponsorship of the knowledge. The paper is free to students, but we need more sponsors on board so that it can generate more money for UPSU, giving us more money to spend on the union, and ultimately, students! I want to get more students involved in The Knowledge, from writing to the production process. I want each issue to be a must-read!
More focus on Societies in UPSU. I want to develop the already amazing societies we, at the moment, a lot of attention is focused on the sports clubs, there is such a wide range of societies at UPSU I’d like to see them in the limelight more often
A bigger fuss made of RAG week. RAG week is such a fantastic way for all students, whether they are part of RAG or not to get involved. At other universities, RAG week is viewed almost as a carnival, raising huge amounts of money. I’d love to see our RAG week develop into such a huge event.
