Hi there my names Ben and I am the candidate for the Parliament Chair Position.
The role of Chair Person and the many responsibilities that it entails is one that some may not be aware of. My role if elected will be to oversee the democratic process at UPSU and make sure our meetings are conducted in a fair and unbiased manner, a job which can be quite challenging; not least because of the sometimes opposing views of our officers. In order to perform in my role effectively I am required to put my own views on hold and conduct our business in a proper manner, ensuring that the decisions we make are the right ones for you. I have been a member of the student parliament for 2 years firstly as an accommodation rep and secondly as an Independent rep. alongside that I have represented our University at NUS conferences and will continue to do so at this year’s National Conference in Newcastle. This experience I believe makes me the ideal candidate for this role.
The second responsibility I will undertake will be to sit alongside the President on the University board of governors, which will allow me to voice your views to the highest part of the University. One of the biggest issues facing us here in Plymouth is poor access to services provided by the University Library and Computing services, If elected I promise to continue fighting to tackle this problem and maintain a firm stance on the Board of Governors.
I believe that I have the skills and knowledge to take on this role to the best of my ability and I hope that you vote for me #1 in these elections.
Thank You
