► Welcome to Volunteering

The University of Plymouth Students' Union has a long history of volunteering within local communities and provides students with a fantastic opportunity to develop their skills and experience.

The Volunteer Department is here to develop and promote student volunteering in the community and can help you find the perfect activity to enhance your studies; learn new skills; meet people and have fun; access free training; or do something completely different and challenging!

There are lots of opportunities and projects which students at the University of Plymouth are involved such as planting trees; supporting refugees and asylum seekers; serving lunches to older people; supporting young people with learning disabilities; spending the day at the sea making the beach a better place for everyone; creating wildlife gardens, and many more.

New projects are being created all the time, ranging from cultural workshops in schools to sports activities with young people.

Check out the volunteer blog for all the details on upcoming events and news -

RELAYS (Regional Educational Legacy in Arts and Youth Sport) has been designed to inspire young people to participate in, create and promote sporting and cultural activities in the South West.  RELAYS focuses on three main themes – sport wellbeing; arts and culture; and knowledge and learning.  Volunteers have the exciting opportunity to help plan, co-ordinate and run events and activities around the region.  Training and t-shirts are provided!

Contact joanna.reed@su.plymouth.ac.uk to find out more and to get involved.

Volunteering in Plymouth (ViP) is a student led organisation and they actively help with the running of projects, raising of funds for their international projects, and organising of social events for all volunteers amongst many other things!

What to do next:

  • Check out the volunteering pages to see the planned events and activities and to get a flavour of the sorts of things you can do
  • Email volunteer@su.plymouth.ac.uk to arrange a time for a chat
  • Come to the Volunteer Office in the Hive to sign up for projects, pick up an enrolment form, find out about training, and all the activities on offer
  • Check out the Student-led Project pages to get an overview of the types of projects run by ViP.

Please let us know if we can help in any way or if you have any questions.  We look forward to seeing you soon.

Thanks,

Claire, Lynsey, Mark and Jo
