Wellbeing Advice:

As a student, it may often seem that you have so many things to think about. Juggling studies, finance, friendships, jobs, housing and everything else can often start to impact. That is why being aware of your own wellbeing is paramount, and if you feel that you are struggling in any area, knowing what is out there to support you.

The university has a great deal of wellbeing support available to students, and should you feel that you need it, we would recommend the that Student Wellbeing Services are your first point of contact.

However, we are aware that there are times that you may prefer to initially seek guidance from someone independent to the university, and that is where SU Advice can assist. We are not wellbeing professional, but can offer guidance on wellbeing matters, and when necessary, help to signpost you to the most relevant, specialist support.

University Services

As a students’ union we pride ourselves on acting as a signpost to other services that are provided at the University, online and within the city for our students. It is extremely important that you are aware of the wellbeing services available to you as a student at Plymouth University.

We understand that it can be daunting coming to university, being responsible for your own health and not knowing what services you have available to you. The Students’ Union aims to provide students with the knowledge of support available to help promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

If you need some guidance in finding the right wellbeing service, then we’re here for you. We are happy to explore options with you and direct you to suitable services. If after contacting them you require additional support, we can discuss this. We know that when we are overwhelmed, we all need a helping hand.

We will not share information about you with the University without your consent. The University’s Wellbeing services also follow strict confidentiality procedures. However, if you would prefer to use an external service, we can help you look for a suitable alternative.

Mental Health" is not a condition, everyone has mental health throughout our whole lives - which includes everything from your emotional, psychological, and social well-being. For any number of reasons, sometimes your mental health will be positive, and sometimes you may have a dip and start to struggle. Think of your mental health like a spectrum - sometimes you will be at one end, sometimes you might be at the other, so it is important to know what you can do to help yourself when you are struggling, and when to access professional support.
