Candidate for the position of NUS Delegate

FEZ ENDALAUST

Hi, I’m Fez - your UC Chair. I was drawn to student politics three years ago out of a desire to support marginalised students whose voices weren’t being heard. I ran for delegate twice, went to national conference last year, and I wrote the motion supporting sex workers’ rights that UPSU is bringing to this conference.

I believe I have shown how dedicated I am to improving conditions for our most vulnerable students. I initially ran in December, excited to voice my views again after months of being in an apolitical role, but dropped out of the election ultimately because I didn’t feel confident. A few weeks afterwards I realised I had to do all I could to help. I made arrangements to go to conference anyway as a visitor to campaign and help get our motion through - visitors don’t have speaking rights, and so the speeches I have prepared for our motion would go to other students. This by-election is our opportunity to ensure that it’s a Plymouth student speaking for Plymouth’s motion, and a sex worker speaking on sex workers’ rights.

I want to deliver the speeches I have tirelessly written, and get to vote for Ali Milani and Zamzam Ibrahim - the candidates I plan to spend conference campaigning for. I’m a working class, queer, disabled, migrant sex worker - I know what it’s like to be a struggling student. You can be sure that I will have our liberation at the heart of each and every decision I make.
