My name is Fawziyyah Ahmed, I am a Muslim studying Economics with Law. I am currently in my third year at the University. I was the former vice chair of the Islamic Society where I worked with the team to raise thousands of pounds for orphans in need and collaborated with other societies to create a better awareness of each other faiths. I am currently the chair of the Nigerian student's society where I aim to collaborate with various faiths to come together as one.
My aims are to:
-Work closely with the Student Union to build an interfaith forum; a safe space for both students, faith societies and staff of different faiths to come together and engage with each other and increase the representation of all faiths within the University. This can be carried out by hosting various meet-ups with members of various faiths to come together and discuss areas of common interest and concern.
-Create awareness, interaction, understanding and learning amongst all students and staff about different religion and beliefs through various collaborations between all the faith societies in the Student Union with organizing activities such as speed faithing, inviting chaplains for talks on different faiths, visits to places of worship, a number of campaigns to achieve common goals and multi-faith fair
-Stand as the voice of all faiths and beliefs at the University by providing support to all faith groups and negotiating with the Student union on their behalf for better acknowledgements and to identify the needs of each group and solve issues that may arise.
-Work with the Student union to ensure that the needs of student faith groups are met. This involves looking at their practicalities of faith on campus such as dietary requirements like Halal, Vegan and Kosher, space to pray and adequate timetabling of prayer space so all faiths can use the space.
