My main aims in this role would be in helping students to seek support and create change where needed. There are often issues on campus that go unspoken and I think it would benefit all if we created a safe and well signposted space for people to discuss and improve upon them. In particular I want to improve our outreach for victims of abuse; while some forms of abuse are easily identified there are many others that are far harder to see and just as damaging. I would like to run a campaign helping to define what actually constitutes abuse in each form (emotional, sexual and physical) and point students towards the correct people to talk to if they believe they may have experienced any form of abuse. I would also aim to make this campaign as gender neutral as possible as abuse can affect people of all genders.

Another target I would have is to improve communication and cooperation between minority student groups (BAME, LGBTQ+, women and nonbinary, and disabled students) to work out and overcome issues that may face one or all of our groups. This is especially important as many students do not fit into just one of these groups, and as such I think that improving our cooperation can only benefit the student body as a whole.

Finally, I would like to help make students more aware of the resources available to them with regards to sexual and mental health. We have some wonderful support systems both on campus and not that I feel are often under used as many students just don’t know that they are there for them, and by better signposting and advertising thee I believe it could help improve moral and wellbeing.
