Candidate for the position of NUS Delegate

Hi, I'm Fez. I'm a final year sociology student and I've been involved in national student politics for over four years. Over that time I have learned a lot about the NUS - how it operates, what they need to change, and how influential Plymouth's delegates can be.

Last year we had to occupy conference stage just to be listened to, raising NUS’s issues with democracy, accountability and representation - just three of the reasons UPSU voted to leave. This is our final conference, and I believe we should use the time we have left to influence NUS to be better.

If elected, I pledge to:

  • Defend Liberation

  • Hold NUS to Account

  • Remain Transparent

Liberation and representation of marginalised students is at the heart of my politics, and it should be for NUS too. The NUS Trustee Board has decided to defund the liberation campaigns, including by removing the Trans Full-Time Officer and defunding the International Students Campaign. They made this decision in total privacy without consulting any students or even the NUS liberation officers themselves.

I will campaign against this undemocratic decision that de-prioritises some of the most marginalised students in the country, whilst holding NUS officers to account and highlighting the reasons that we’re leaving.

As I have done in my past two times as delegate, I am happy to release my voting record, take motions forward, and speak on issues during debate.

These are issues I’ve been fighting within NUS for years, and I think my experience and passion makes me one of the best people to take them forward in UPSU’s final conference. I've loved my experience as delegate and I hope that you can put your trust in me to represent you again!

Vote Fez for liberation, accountability, and transparency!
