Adam Holt

BSc (Hons) Chemistry

Stage 4
What motivated you to run for a full-time representative role?
I genuinely love helping people, and the SU has the power to make a real difference! As a School Rep (SoGEES), PALS Leader, and former ChemSoc Chair, I’ve seen how societies can enhance student life and foster a sense of belonging- which is so important for mental health. As a sabbatical officer, it would be my honour to help support more students! My goals are to ensure every student has a voice, provide societies the recognition they deserve, and keep our campus a safe space for everyone.
Why do you think you would be a good President?
It’s been a privilege to take on various roles at uni—from School Rep for SoGEES to PALS Leader and former Chair of the Chemistry Society. Each has helped me build the leadership, confidence, and drive to create real change. Outside of uni, I’m a football referee and a volunteer at my local Air Cadets—both have taught me to stand up for people, even in tough situations. I genuinely care deeply about student voices being heard, and I will always stand up for you!
What three words would your friends use to describe you?
Determined, Caring & Tenacious
If you could change one thing in your Faculty what would that be?
I want our amazing societies to get the recognition they deserve! A sense of belonging is key to student life, and societies play a huge role in that! As your Faculty President, I’ll work with the faculty and university to properly showcase their incredible impact. One of my key priorities would be a ‘Weekly Society Spotlight,’ giving a different society a shout out at the end of lectures—helping more students discover the fantastic opportunities they offer!
Why did you chose to study at the University of Plymouth?
I'm from Plymouth, so it felt like a natural choice to study here! I picked Chemistry because I’m passionate about using science to make a positive impact on the world. Staying in Plymouth was an easy decision too! I wanted to remain part of our incredible communities, including my local football league, which really does mean a lot to me!
What is your favourite thing about Plymouth?
The people! I’ve had the privilege of meeting so many interesting individuals and talking to people from all walks of life. I’ve learnt so much from them, and for me, it’s the people of Plymouth who make this city such a special place to call home!
