What motivated you to run for a full-time representative role?
I was inspired by the need to see change in the university, there are many issues facing our students that could be easily solved if brought to the right audience. I am passionate about ensuring the student experience is as cohesive and enjoyable as it can possibly be for all students, home, international and commuter. It is important to ensure that the student voice remains strong in the discussion room and that we continue to have a seat at the table when important decisions are made.
Why do you think you would be a good President?
I have experience in dealing with issues in a diplomatic setting, and an understanding of the university having been an active member in its discussions throughout my entire time at the institution. Having come from a background of performance and later English, I am aware of the overlook my faculty sometimes receives in academic conversations. I hope to be able to elevate my fellow AHB students, be that in Law, Education, Business or Creative degrees to use their voices and make a difference!
What three words would your friends use to describe you?
Passionate, Resilient and Outgoing
If you could change one thing in your Faculty what would that be?
The grouping of deadlines, it is unfair to expect students who also have to work part time jobs to submit their deadlines all in the same week. Often leading to burnout, stress and further complications. I would like to see the deadlines spread throughout a student's academic journey allowing them the time and freedom to explore them in full. I also seek to maintain support to our Sports Clubs, Societies and Academic Societies, allowing students to grow and expand outside of their studies.
Why did you chose to study at the University of Plymouth?
I chose Plymouth due to its proximity to the sea, it was also an easy choice for me as an estranged student. Both the University of Plymouth and Plymouth itself have been nothing but giving to me, it has allowed me to grow and explore during my time here. I am proud that I have made it through university and I am proud that that university is Plymouth.
What is your favourite thing about Plymouth?
The People. I am very fond of the people of Plymouth, both students and those who live here. I have formed incredible relationships with local business owners and always know where to go to find advice or conversation that isn't related to the university. Everyone is incredibly giving, and caring and I couldn't ask for anything more. Also I really like the pubs.
