We understand that the cost of food is on the rise lately and that every penny of your food shop counts. That’s why we have put together a list of 5 surprising foods that you can freeze so that your food will last you much longer!

1) Milk

Milk can be stored in the freezer for up to three months! You can pour your milk into liquid freezer bags or ice cube trays and this will last a lot longer. The good news is that this works for non-dairy alternatives too such as coconut, almond, oat and soya! (Just remember to give it a day or so to defrost slowly in the fridge before consuming!).

2) Cheese

Yes, cheese can be frozen! We’d advise that you grate it first and then store it in a freezer bag or airtight container. To defrost, simply take it out of the freezer as and when it’s needed. (Don’t freeze blocks of cheese- this will leave you with crumbly and smelly cheese and nobody wants that!).

3) Bananas

Bananas are a  freezer staple for a variety of recipes: to go on top of your morning cereal, to put into smoothies, or even to make banana ice cream! Simply just take them out of the freezer when you’re ready to use it and it will be good to go!

4) Bread

All you need to do is put your loaf in the freezer and then you’ll be able to take it out slice-by-slice as and when you need it. Bread doesn’t take long to defrost- about an hour or so, but you can always pop the slice straight into the toaster.

5) Potatoes

It is possible to freeze potatoes, though they should be partially or fully cooked before you pop them in the freezer otherwise they will end up mushy. Potatoes can be stored in the freezer for up to three months. This includes boiled, mashed and roasted potatoes.
