
Summer Volunteering Opportunities
Summer is finally here together with an abundance of free time without the pressures of university life, exams or deadlines - hooray! For many of you this will mean heading home to spend time with family, embarking on a trip abroad or perhaps even taking up a summer placement.
Some of you however may have chosen to spend your summer here in Plymouth or may live locally to the area. If you have been looking for a meaningful way to spend your free time, a way to give back to your local community or to even gain some new skills for your C.V look no further.
With so many volunteering opportunities available there is something to suit everyone! Here is just a flavour of what you could get involved with, from one off events to more regular volunteering.

Heartswell: Creative design opportunity
Heartswell, a local charity, are looking for someone with an interest in creative design and with the skills to assist them in designing new pull up banners and leaflets to promote their charity. They would like a more modern design and some creative ideas to help make their materials more engaging and eye catching. This volunteering opportunity can be completed at home, university or here at their office in Plymouth, the choice is yours.

With Wembury Marine Centre you learn more about the amazing marine on your doorstep, take part in public events such as rock pool safaris and family fun days, or you could help with the work the Centre does with local schools.

St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth provides specialist end of life care, helping to alleviate pain and distressing symptoms, whilst offering practical, emotional and spiritual support to patients and their families. St Luke's have a wide variety of volunteering opportunities for you to get involved with over the summer from helping in one of their charity shops, assisting at their Driftwood Cafe to sorting through donations for the charity shops or marshalling at their Neon Midnight Walk.

CHICKS' volunteers have a unique opportunity to work with some of the UK's most disadvantaged children and to gain experience working with children outside the education system. As a Respite Break Volunteer for CHICKS you will be a positive adult role model who will interact with the children and allow them to develop and experience new challenges.

YMCA Plymouth is a charity working with children, young people and vulnerable adults to develop their full potential through providing activities and education. Why not help out with their holiday club which includes an exciting mix of sporting and indoor activities and the occasional trip to the local theme parks.

PEA is a practical conservation volunteering organisation based in Plymouth. We aim to involve and inspire people of all ages and abilities to conserve and learn about the natural environment whilst having fun and making new friends! They have something on almost every week and with no ongoing commitment it is the perfect excuse to learn about the natural environment.

The Wave Project
Our surf mentors will work 1:1 with our young people in the sea, with our ethos being to let the young person lead what they want to do. If they want to surf, great! If they want to swim, great! If they want to build a sandcastle, no problem! Its a 2 hour fun session!

Routeways supports children and their families to enhance their welfare and wellbeing through providing projects at Devonport Park Activity Centre and the Beckly Centre, both of which offer safe and supportive environments for children and young people to engage in and benefit from a range of social, play and informal learning opportunities.

Would you like to volunteer in a tranquil, beautiful part of Dartmoor by the side of the reservoir? Volunteers are needed to help the conservation team to carry out seasonal habitat management, wildlife surveying and archaeological preservation of the reservoir. You are welcome for as little or as often as you wish!
