Business School Rep Update

Last Updated: Saturday, January 20, 2025

1. School Rep Training

What happened: Took part in training sessions run by Hannah and Charlie.

Details: These sessions covered the responsibilities of the role, how to effectively communicate with course reps and faculty, and strategies for collecting feedback through surveys and meetings.

2. Open Meeting with Faculty

What happened: Attended an open meeting with faculty members to discuss their plans for the future.

Details: Faculty shared their vision for improving resources, enhancing course materials, and addressing student concerns. They discussed ideas like adding more library resources. I highlighted areas where students could benefit most.

3. Introduction Email & First Meeting with Course Reps

What happened: Sent an introductory email and held a meeting with course reps to gather initial feedback.

Details: Course reps pointed out challenges like high textbook costs and limited access to resources. They also suggested organising networking events for students. I documented these points to bring up at the next STLQC meeting.

4. STLQC Meeting with Danielle Bishop

What happened: Attended the School Teaching and Learning Quality Committee (STLQC) meeting.

Details: Raised concerns about resource shortages and the financial strain of purchasing textbooks. Suggested for the library to purchase more books. The idea was well-received, and potential solutions are being explored.

5. Feedback Survey on Networking Events

What happened: Designed a survey to gather feedback on social and networking events.

Details: Students showed strong interest in events featuring alumni and industry

professionals. Plans are underway to collaborate with course reps and faculty to organise these events.

6. Arranging and Conducting Course Rep Meetings

What happened: Scheduled meetings with course reps to maintain an open dialogue.

Details: Scheduling has been tricky due to deadlines, so I’m arranging one-on-one sessions with those unable to attend group meetings.

7. Advocacy for More Resources

What happened: Advocated for more funding for textbooks and learning materials during meetings with faculty and the head of school.

Details: Highlighted how the lack of resources impacts students.

8. Planning Future Events and Meetings

What happened: Working with course reps to review last term’s feedback and plan

upcoming events.

Details: Monitoring feedback to ensure events match student needs and interests.
