On the 27th of November 2024, members of the Enviromental Society, Gina Shorland (Chair), Lucy Stuart (Treasurer), Emily Poynton (Secretary), Caleb Summers (Health and Safety), and Disha Shedge (Social Media) hosted a clothing swap in the SU Little Room to help encourage students to make sustainable fashion choices and recharge their wardrobe at the same time!

"With the changing of the seasons we understood that students may feel the need to switch up their wardrobe. By holding a clothing swap, we encouraged them to make sustainable fashion choices while obtaining new (to them) garments to refresh their wardrobe. Buying second hand keeps clothes in circulation preventing the need to buy new, fast fashion garments, an industry that produces more carbon emissions per minute than driving a car around the world six times."

Did you know that the average consumer now buys 60% more clothing than they did 15 years ago and less than 1% of textiles and clothes are genuinely recycled into new textiles and clothes? Extending the average life of clothes by just nine months would save £5 billion in resources used to supply, launder, and dispose of clothing.
Another clothes swap will be held in Semester 2 so watch this space!"
