On the 24th of September 2023, UPLAX (University of Plymouth Lacrosse) Men’s 1st and Marjon Men’s 1st had their usual pre-season match. UPLAX team members shared with us an overview of the match and the team's success...
"Last year, UPLAX had lost to Marjon 13-3 with them beating us confidently.
The boys took that game and used it as motivation to become the formidable and unstoppable team we are today.
In Varsity 2023, we managed to keep the score to a 5-5 draw with us on the momentum to win if we had any extra time. This year was going to be different.
We played a very dominant game against the Marjon side with us coming away with the victory of 3-2! This is a major milestone for UPLAX as the men's side hasn’t beaten Marjon since 2019.
During the game the fefence was rock-solid, preventing Marjon from scoring as freely as they did the year before. Our attack was strong and controlled, with us having around 75% possession rate over the game.
The journey to this victory was a testament to the team’s unwavering determination and resilience.
Throughout the year, the team committed themselves to intensive training. We honed our skills and developed new strategies, determined to close the gap and prove that they were a force to be reckoned with. This was led by the Captain James Stansbury (Jon). James put in hours on end to ensure that we had an undefeated season, including a league win with a promotion, getting gold in the cup, and beating multiple premiership teams 2 leagues above us. We aim to carry on this momentum into the upcoming season in Division 1a with how effective our team has become.
Our lads are definitely ones to watch!"
