This weekend, Plymouth University Ultimate Frisbee Club 'PICNIC' took their women's team to Coventry to compete in the West of England Women's Indoor Frisbee Regionals. The club has lost a lot of experienced players due to graduation, so the team this year was quite fresh with half of them being beginners!
The team played some tough games against fierce competition, but the quality of frisbee was still fantastic! Their favourite game of the weekend was a highly competitive but well-spirited match against Swansea, which resulted in a 4-4 draw.
The team's final match of the weekend was against Exeter 2 and it was the game that would decide who would be going to nationals. After an intense fight, PICNIC won 6-2 and qualified for nationals at the same time!
This is the third time running the PICNIC women's team has qualified for nationals! In 2020, they went to Glasgow for nationals, finishing in 11th place, and last year they went to Nottingham and finished 7th.
Special mentions go to Maisie who was voted MVP and Zoe who was voted MIP.
"I'm so proud of the team for qualifying nationals once again! Considering how inexperienced the team is this year, qualifying was definitely not guaranteed and we really had to fight for it! But I think that's what makes this year extra special to me." - Liv Sims, team captain
"It was also so nice to be in an environment full of women, all showing so much talent , enthusiasm and comradeship. In quite a 'male dominated' sport, it was really nice to be involved in a tournament where women's skills and abilities can be highlighted and appreciated more!" - Hannah Brown
"I couldn't recommend the Frisbee Society more! If you want a fun sport with nice and supportive members, this is the sport to join." - Hannah Brown
