An article from before the 'New Normal'
After the 500 mile drive in the wind and torrential rain, we were pretty happy to see that the weather forecast had improved and the sun was expected to be shining for most of the whole day.
We had a strong team for the 8km Women’s A race made up of 3 laps, which was the first in the day.
Lucy, Ella, Katrin and Romain started well in the field of 400 which included the current National Champions. The course was really tough and muddy, especially after the long drive, so the team did extremely well all to finish, especially with so many people dropping out halfway through the race.
The Men’s A race took place later in the afternoon. This race was just over 10km and took in 2 of the harder circuits through the ramps and the water jumps.
We entered a 5 man team with Adrian, Ben, Michael, James Hywel-Davies and James Howe. By this point in the day, the weather was getting pretty awful, and despite their best efforts, Michael and Adrian were unfortunately forced to pull out, with James Hywel-Davies finishing with a shin fracture.
Despite coming back medal-less, this was the biggest race of the year with 2000 people racing on the day, so we were super pleased with the performance and very psyched for the rest of the season!
