Here at UPSU, we're really excited to launch a brand new schedule of all new virtual Freshers' events! If you're looking to meet new people, try something new or just have fun from the comfort of your very own home then look no further - we've got you covered.
As we said in our How Freshers Week may be different article, this year we want to extend beyond the traditional ‘Freshers Week’ so that all students have access to a diverse range of safe, social and fun activities and spaces both earlier and longer into the term. We want you to have more time to meet new people and to feel comfortable and safe doing so.
With this in mind, we're started our events schedule earlier this year by offering a range of virtual events so that you have the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends before you arrive at University.
How does it work:
-
For all of the events you'll need to get a ticket - but the best news is that these are all free
-
To get a ticket you'll need to log in to the UPSU website - your log in details for our website will be exactly the same as your University log in details, if you're a new student and not sure if you've got this information make sure that you've completed online enrollment here.
-
Once you've got your free ticket, you'll be emailed a receipt with the information you need to access the Zoom call. Please do not share this information with anyone else, if they want to attend they need to also get a ticket from the UPSU website.
-
If you've got any questions, message us on Facebook or email us at info@upsu.com
What's on:
The Big Monday Quiz
Every Monday night from 8:30pm, our fabulous quiz host will be asking a range of general knowledge questions, as well as throwing in a few scavenger hunts and creative tasks (for those that aren’t so good with the knowledge).
So get your teams together and let the quizzing commence!
The Lip Sync Battle
Love to perform, but can’t sing to save your life? Come release your inner pop star at the UPSU lip sync battle. Sign up beforehand by checking out the information in the links below. No experience necessary, just be enthusiastic and as extra as possible. The event host will be in touch with your before the event to discuss how it will work.
Don’t want to perform? You can still come and watch the amazing battle, and cheer on your favourite performer. Get dressed up, pour a drink and come enjoy the party. You’ll be sent a zoom link to join the call, and can watch from wherever.
Massaoke
Nothing beats Freshers' Week karaoke, what better way to make friends for life than by singing Bohemian Rhapsody with them at midnight? Well, we know this can't happen in person this year, but we're bringing you the best virtual version. For the first four Wednesdays of September, we will be playing massaoke, which is where we all sing along together to some of the best songs of all time. It gets pretty hectic when done virtually, but it is a LOT of fun.
Each week will be themed, so look out for the theme and dress appropriately! We will be singing most songs together as a massive group. However; you will have a selection of songs to choose from which you can request to sing either on your own or in a smaller group
Don't worry if you're not a singer, there will be some other fun and games thrown in to keep you entertained, and you can always sit back and watch everyone else sing! So do your vocal warm ups, make sure you've got enough space to dance and grab your hairbrushes...
Virtual Friend Meet
Come along to our Virtual Friend Meet on Tuesday 8th and 22nd September, to give you the chance to get to know some people from uni.
You’ll be sent a link to join a zoom call. Once in there, you’ll be split up into groups of around 5 people for 10-15 minutes at a time. You’ll be given a fun task to do such as a quiz, scavenger hunt or creative task, which you can complete together while getting to know each other. You can safely exchange numbers and Instagram accounts with those you got on with, and make some friends from the safety of your home.
The SU Disco Bingo
Disco Bingo is consistently described as 'the most fun I've had since lock down began' and we just know you're going to have an AMAZING time, and from the comfort of your own home. See what Secret London had to say about it here. And we’ll be playing it every Friday night in September!
It's essentially a massive party with a game of bingo thrown in for fun. Instead of numbers being called out, you'll hear amazing songs which we'll all sing (on mute) and dance along to, so make sure you've got some space to dance. If the song you hear is on your bingo card, you’ll cross it off. Don’t worry if you don’t know the name of the song, we will tell you!
Each week will have a different theme, so look out for that and dress up appropriately! Wear your best outfit, get your props at the ready and put the disco lights on. This is going to be a lot of fun!
