On Saturday 30th November, the Education Society Plymouth (EdSoc) hosted their first fundraising event of the year, a charity netball match in the SU Gym Sports Hall in aid of Jeremiah's Journey.
The match saw two of EdSoc's regular teams going head to head - the football team and the netball team. The society hold football and netball training once a week because they aim to provide students with activities that enable them to relax and meet others in the Education community.
On the day they fundraised by charging to play and watch the match, plus a raffle and a "guess how many sweets in the jar" game.
The final score was 6 - 3 to the football team but altogether they managed to raise an impressive £160 for Jeremiah's Journey, a charity that supports children who are experiencing bereavement - offering them support and finding coping mechanisms to deal with their grief.
Ella Dart, Treasurer and netball coach, umpire at the charity match said:
"After lots of planning and the joining of EdSoc netball and football I was left amazed. Amazed by the time and effort of both the committee and players as well as the support from friends and family at the side lines. The match was eventful and full of fun! It was a pleasure umpiring the netball match for such an amazing charity!"
The Education Society Plymouth (EdSoc) is open to all Education students as well as those considering an education course following completion of their degree. Their aim is to work together to create exciting events where members can learn skills whilst on their journey to working within the education sector. They help to provide members with skills by offering information and discounts for education courses and have held multiple TeachMeet events in Plymouth with local teachers attending the events to support those students and lecturers who were speaking about experiences and advice on teaching children in schools.
