Are you a student staying in Plymouth over the festive holidays? If the answer is yes, read on to find out how we can support you in finding new friends within our student community who will also be in the city to help support one another and keep social!
Many students will decide to return to their hometowns during the Christmas period, however, some students may decide they want to remain in Plymouth or perhaps do not have the option to make the journey home.
If you are a student that will be staying in Plymouth this Christmas, you may find yourself without the company of your usual social group or housemates and therefore feel lonely and isolated. However, it does not have to be this way; there are many other students who will also be in a similar position who you can arrange to meet with either in person or virtually.
Knowing where to find these other students you can chat to and perhaps attend Plymouth’s festive events with can be challenging, however, we have a great solution for you: the UPSU Buddy Scheme!
The UPSU Buddy Scheme is available all year round for all University of Plymouth students, however, we would love to see more students’ organising and attending student-led activities throughout the winter break. Whether you have an activity already planned or an idea for an activity you would like to do (festive-related or not), please consider signing up through the UPSU Buddy Scheme so we can help inform other students of this event/activity and hopefully introduce you to new friendships for life! As an SU, we are here to vet, support and promote these activities, however, it will be entirely student-led and student-focused. The Buddy Scheme is designed to be informal and flexible; we simply want to encourage students to seek support from their university peers through fun social activities, coffee meets or online chats. The UPSU team will do their best to connect you with individuals who share common interests and would like to take part in similar social activities.
