There's no getting away from the fact that sometimes processes can be delayed, and it has been known for students not to get their loans in time for the first few weeks of their time at University.

While there's no way for us to speed up the process, we can assist you with the options that are available to you.

Receiving the incorrect amount

Firstly, if you have received a Maintenance Loan and believe that you have the incorrect amount, contact us. It would also be beneficial if you could forward us a copy of your SFE entitlement summary, so we can see what has been stated.

If your Maintenance Loan entitlement is incorrect you can contact SFE on 0300 100 0607 and request a re-assessment.

No Maintenance Loan

If you have received no Maintenance Loan at all, it could be for several reasons. It could be because they are still processing because your application was late. It could be because Student Finance are still awaiting confirmation of attendance.

There are two kinds of ‘confirmation of attendance’: one is required at the start of the year which upon receipt allows Student Finance to release payment of maintenance loans and grants into your specified bank account. If you find it is for this reason that you need your attendance confirming, you need to email studentservices@plymouth.ac.uk.

The other kind is where the University has to confirm you are in attendance each term, upon receipt of this Student Finance will release the relevant instalment of your tuition fee. If it is for this reason that you need your attendance confirming, please email the Student Accounts Team at studentaccountsteam@plymouth.ac.uk.

In the meantime, the University does offer short-term loans for students, which you can read more about here: (https://www.plymouth.ac.uk/study/fees/support-and-advice/student-funding-faqs)

If this is something you need assistance with, contact us and we can give the relevant advice. We can also let you know about other initiatives such as the SU Community Larder or the Veg Box Scheme.

We understand that not getting your Maintenance Loan can cause a lot of additional stress and worry right at the start of your University life, so contact us and we can do our best to help.
