Icons Award Winner 2021 - University of Plymouth Ladies Football Club

homepage

A HUGE congratulations to the University of Plymouth Ladiess Football Club committee, who have been awarded their Icons Award for their efforts through an extremely difficult year.

The UPSU Icons Awards celebrate our Sports Clubs and Societies that have gone above and beyond throughout this year. There are certain criteria each group has to complete to win their award which is then approved by the UPSU Sports and Societies Teams. This year we have seen so many amazing things happen throughout our student community, including the efforts of UPLFC.

Who are the Ladies Football Club:

"The ladies football club is a student run team welcoming ladies of all abilities. We hold training once a week offering support and encouragement for those looking to improve.

The membership fee includes affiliation to the Devon FA, training fees and a social shirt. We also have a Futsal team that plays on Saturdays, with additional training once a week on Friday nights."

Plymouth Ladies Football Club Successes:

The University of Plymouth Ladies Football Club has gone from stride to stride this year in a difficult time for sports. They have completed, reviewed and signed off all relevant documents required by the Sports Department and ensure that they are uploaded to the UPSU website. They've missed no more than 3 Sports Forums in the academic year and held a successful Annual General Meeting (AGM) to elect the new committee for the academic year 2021-22. The committee has always complied with all of the SUs policies and procedures and has kept in constant contact with the Sports Department with important updates and information. They have completed all compulsory committee training, registered all trips, tours and events with the Students’ Union and demonstrated effective financial management of their budgets and funding.

Throughout the year the UPLFC has consistently engaged with the SU by meeting with staff and Sabbatical Officers, emailing and interacting with the Students’ Union Instagram. They have hosted fortnightly and often weekly socials including; quiz nights, tenpin bowling and a cops & robbers Zoom social, as well as producing successful social media campaigns like their ‘Meet the Committee’ posts on the UPLFC Instagram alongside two fundraising events through the year an online quiz, raising £472 for Plymouth Marrow's Hero Week, and a charity futsal match for Mind. The committee has communicated well with its members through social media, sharing social updates and minutes from meetings, as well as running a meet and greet introductory session for new members at the start of the year. They have taken the time to fully support one of the biggest events in the student diary, the UPSU Elections, with 63.6% of their members voting for who they want to represent them in the next academic year. Thank you for your support UPLFC!

And finally, UPLFC has completed the additional criteria for their icons award by volunteering to organise a beach clean on Bovisand beach with their members and logging their volunteering hours on the UPSU websites, whilst running an environmental campaign on their social media about ocean waste and its impact on the environment. The club also worked closely with the Futsal Club to organise their charity futsal match as well as a joint training session for Mind. Such amazing work from the Ladies Football Club here at the University of Plymouth Students' Union, your efforts have been amazing and this award is so deserved.

Congratulations from all of us here at UPSU!

The University of Plymouth Ladies Football Club has been awarded their Icons for all the amazing work they have done over this year voluntarily and on top of their own studies, this couldn't be more deserved and we can wait to see what you bring to the Students' Union next year!

Stay tuned and keep an eye on our social media channels over the coming weeks to read a profile of each student group that has achieved Icons this year.

You’ll be able to find out more about what they did to receive this award and how you can get involved in September.
