Introducing the Ocean City Varsity Fund
Each year, students from the University of Plymouth and Plymouth Marjon University come together for the celebration of sport which is Varsity. Varsity is an opportunity for students to come together for a common cause, whether that’s supporting their friends and teammates across a variety of different sports or raising money for charity.
While we’re incredibly proud of the funds raised for local and national charities in previous years and the lives that this money has impacted, this year both the University of Plymouth Students’ Union and Marjon Sports Federation have decided to support a cause closer to the experience of each and every one of our communities.
As students are spending more of their time either saving money or making money, for many, sport has become a privilege and one that is getting further out of reach for more of our student population. The Ocean City Varsity Fund will be used to level the playing field.
The benefits of sport are endless. From the obvious in terms of promoting physical wellbeing to the profound positive impact on mental health. Being part of a community promotes social wellbeing and the bonds, camaraderie, and shared experiences can create memories which last long after graduation.
By harnessing the power of competitive sport, this year the money raised through ticket sales for Varsity will be spent on a range of projects designed to reduce barriers to participation across both institutions, such as:
Together we aim to create an inclusive environment where no student is left behind, no matter their financial situation.
