LGBT+ history month is about more than celebrating the right to be ourselves, it’s about learning the fights that were fought before us and that happen around us.
Gay marriage was only legalised 10 years ago; transgender people are still fighting for the right to be themselves, challenging ageing laws and outdated beliefs; and there is still homophobia and transphobia in our streets.
Around the world, being yourself and loving who you love, is still criminalised in 69 countries and punishable by death in 11.
LGBT+ history month is a time for tolerance, a time for learning and respecting and protecting lgbt+ individuals in our community.
