We are shocked and saddened by the terrible acts of violence that have taken place in areas of the country in the last week. We are aware that there is a planned protest this evening (5th August, 7pm) outside the Guildhall in Plymouth. Whilst we respect the rights of freedom of speech and people’s rights to protest, our city has no place for the violence and hatred that others have been subjected to. Violence and hatred are not welcome in our community nor is anyone who encourages it.
To echo the voice of Councillor Tudor Evans OBE -
“Everyone living, working and visiting Plymouth has the right to feel and be safe. We must not let those who seek to divide us win.”
Statement from Plymouth Council
and Luke Pollard MP –
“Plymouth is at our best when we celebrate the diversity of all in our city. Plymouth is a great place to live, work and play … The way we solve the problems our city is facing is by working together, not seeking to divide our communities with violence and hate.”
