This weekend was Pride in Plymouth and as your VP Wellbeing and Diversity I went down to celebrate! This year’s pride was in Central Park so just a short walk from the university campus!
I was blown away by more than just the wind with three fantastic stages with a wide range of performances from drag kings and queens, to poets and musicians. Despite the cloudy skies, the park was filled with smiles and rainbows.

For me, a pride celebration in the city means honouring who we are, celebrating how far we’ve come, and reflecting on the work that still needs t be done. While lots of us are free to be ourselves, not all LGBT+ individuals are safe and free to be their authentic selves. I am so thankful to the wonderful LGBT+ community in Plymouth.

If you are LGBT+ and would like to know about the support we offer on campus you can check out:

And if you would like to celebrate Pride, keep an eye out for next years Pride in Plymouth and remember you can get involved with our LGBT+ societies like University of Plymouth LGBT+ and the Transgender and Non-Binary Support Group.
Be bold, be brave, be proud. Pride is for everyone.
