Volunteer in Plymouth (VIP)*
*VIP is now known as Student Led Volunteering
"Volunteering is something that has interested me for a long time. When I moved to Plymouth to study, I wasted no time in signing up for all the volunteering societies the university had to offer. I became heavily involved with ViP, particularly with the railways project (which I'm delighted to hear is still a going concern).
I also did a lot of work with Moor Trees in aid of the conservation in the nearby area. ViP was the perfect vehicle to continue my commitment to volunteering & giving back to the community. It reinforced my passion even after university, culminating in my participation at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London & further still when I worked with the Special Olympics organisation in Plymouth. I was able to take it even further by volunteering abroad, assisting with an environmental project based in eastern Europe. From there, I developed practical skills such as cave exploration and learning new languages. And it was all thanks to ViP that I maintained this passion that continues.
It remains a vital organisation in contributing to the local area and a great way for newcomers to integrate themselves, as well as to learn about the city of Plymouth."
