In September 2020, before the pandemic hit, teammates of the University of Plymouth Women's Rugby Football Club walked 300km in 7 days, fundraising over £100 for the Vinjeru Trust School in Zambia who were building boarding facilities for students. These boarding facilities will not only keep the students safe but will also create a greater reach within the district, as many of the students already walk between 3KM-7KM each way to school, every day.

In the spring of 2019, one of our teammates Rhianna had the wonderful opportunity to travel to Zambia and teach at The Vinjeru Trust School. In the 3 months she spent there, she worked closely with the other teachers and became part of the Vinjeru family.
Since then the Coronavirus pandemic has made times very difficult for so many and unfortunately, the Vinjeru Trust School is no different. With every month that this pandemic continues, the school is struggling more and more financially.
Before lockdown began the trust had started fundraising for new boarding facilities. Not only will the new facilities help keep students safe, but they will also help the school achieve some of its long term goals. For example, greater reach within the district, as many of the students already walk between 3KM-7KM each way to school, every day.

Rhianna and a few of our other club members have taken on the challenge to collectively walk 300km in 5 days using Strava to track their distance. During the week, we decided to extend the event to 7 days to ensure we hit our 300km target. It also gave us the chance to keep spreading the word.
????Vinjeru Walk Update!???? So far the team have walked 184KM which is amazing!! Thanks to the lovely British weather...
