On the 1st of November 2024, the University of Plymouth Badminton Club hosted two UV badminton sessions which were open to all students, not just club members!
Club members got in touch with the SU to let us know the great success of the night...
"This was a long-time coming event which we were very excited to put on for the students at the University.
We were inspired by the SU being able to put on UV events in previous years and seeing multiple instances of UV badminton on social media.
The evening went down great, starting off with two sold out sessions! Players had the option of using our UV face paint and getting glow sticks to wear to stand out in the black light. It was great to see everyone’s clothes and rackets reflecting as well. There was a slight Halloween theme to the evening as we had played Halloween classics all through the event (even including some questionable karaoke from our committee)!
We’d like to extend our thanks to the SU staff for allowing us to borrow equipment and supporting us throughout the event, as well as the SU Gym staff who helped us set up and clear down. And lastly to the committee who helped the evening run smoothly, Emma Thornley (Chair), Ruari Gallagher (Secretary) and Darja Zimnikova (Treasurer).
We can’t wait to hold another one in the new year and see lots of new faces! As always, if you’re looking to start a new sport, look no further, we hold 2x casual sessions a week (one of which is members only) perfect for newcomers and beginners alike!

I have never experienced a UV session on any sports. I have heard about how much fun they are, but this Badminton UV session was above my expectations. Music, playing the sport that I like, UV light and vibrant colours were the perfect combination!! I cannot wait for another session!!! - Mar Guillen (Participant)
