Celebrating Black History Month

October marks Black History Month in the UK.

The month-long campaign recognises the contribution and achievements of those with African or Caribbean heritage.

Black History Month is a time of celebration, recognition, and reflection. This year's theme is 'Reclaiming Narratives' .

On this page you will find more information about Black History Month, University of Plymouth resources, upcoming events celebrating Black History Month taking place in Plymouth as well as our wall of inspirational figures - submitted by the University of Plymouth student and staff community.

"In today's world, stories are powerful tools that shape how we understand our past, present, and future. For too long, the history of Black communities has been told through lenses that often misrepresent, oversimplify, or entirely overlook the rich and diverse experiences of those who lived it. But 2024 is set to be a transformative year. Black History Month UK has unveiled its compelling theme: Reclaiming Narratives." - Black History Month
