What motivated you to run for a Sabbatical Officer role and why do you think you would be a good Sabbatical Officer

I have found over my period at university that there is a distance between clubs and societies. As chairman of the university's Thai Kickboxing club I have had the pleasure of interacting with fellow sportspeople and taking part in sports forums. On the other hand as a member of the university's Musical Theatre Group, I have had the opportunity to work alongside incredibly talented individuals who care for their craft. I believe I have a good insight of the trials and requirements of both sides.

Why is the Sabbatical Officer role important

The VP for activities is an integral role in supporting and nurturing longstanding organisations, as well as encouraging and aiding in the creation of new clubs and societies. The role also has a hand in giving support to student led movements such as charity work. This is an important role in ensuring that the needs of students are met and that their beliefs and wants are properly catered for in the most suitable and effective ways.

What three words would your friends use to describe you?

Passionate, Funny, Loyal.

If you could change one thing about the University, what would that be

I would like to bring more attention to "less traditional" clubs and societies whilst maintaining the level of support that larger clubs and societies require to run. I would also like to encourage a higher level of cooperation between these two halves of the student body; encouraging participation, engagement and attendance regarding showcases, matches and widespread events.

If you could change one thing about the Students' Union, what would it be?

I'd like imagine a SU where we can have an open dialogue with the university and the student body. This would be a place where the student voice is truly heard and their concerns and issues are taken into consideration. This would result in us, as students, having a seat at the table wherein major decisions are made on our behalf and our successes are promptly recognised and celebrated accordingly.

Who do you draw most inspiration from and why?

My friend Gordon, who since his retirement has gone out of his way to help anyone who requires it. He is always available to lend a hand, be it by giving a lift or bringing lunch to someone in need. There is no problem too big or too small that he won't at least give his attention and advice to. He is the type of person I hope to be every day. Or maybe Luke Skywalker, because he played a CRUCIAL part in bringing down the Galactic Empire and giving peace and freedom to the galaxy.

What is your proudest moment so far and why?

As a student who journeyed through the foster care system, I am incredibly proud of my university journey. Especially as I did so with independence and determination. Not every day was an easy one but I succeeded in the end. I am also proud of teaching my cat to play fetch.
