Welcome to the University of Plymouth Concert Band!
UPCB is a keen and friendly group of musicians who play a wide variety of Concert Band arrangements, performing within the University and around the City.
If you would like to find out more about our society, feel free to chat to us via our social media accounts, send us an email, or speak to us in rehearsal! 'Register Your Interest' through our page on the SU Website to be added to our email list!
So we can get a rough idea of the numbers of players, as well as the mix of instruments, please 'Register Your Interest' or send us an email/DM to let us know what instrument(s) you would be interested in joining on!
(please note we can't generally supply instruments for players to use aside from percussion, but if you don't have your instrument with you, please check with us as we might be able to arrange something!)
You can also message us on our Instagram (@up_concertband) with any questions you may have!
REHEARSALS AND WORKSHOPS
First rehearsal for 2024/5: Tuesday 24th September 2024 in Rolle 018 at 6:30pm! This will be A GIVE IT A GO session so do come along and try for free, and don't worry if you can't make it there will be another session running on 1st October (see you there!).
Our band rehearses every Tuesday evening in Rolle 018 between 6:30pm and 8:45pm. We typically host two to three concerts per year, including a Christmas concert. In previous years, we have also performed at events such as the South West Universities Concert Band Festival, the staff awards ceremonies (SSTAR Awards) and the UPSU Societies awards.
Around March 2025 we are participating in this years South West Universities Concert Band Festival. We welcome new members to join and come along with us! Membership is only £6 per person for the academic year (this being the same for both general and the committee).
Rehearsals are typically led by student conductors from within the band, however we also organise workshops throughout the year with local expert conductors and military bands; in the past these have included the Royal Marine Band and the Salamanca Band of the Rifles. There is also the chance for aspiring conductors to gain conducting experience through these events.
