STAR is the national network of students building a more understanding and just society where refugees are welcomed and thrive in the UK. STAR aims to volunteer locally with refugees to build understanding and connections, and it has started campaigning nationally for policy change and equal access to higher education for refugees. STAR has also been advocating for refugee protection and asylum journeys in the UK with experts and peers.

The aims and objectives:

• Provide volunteering opportunities for students to interact with the refugee and asylum seekers in the community to build a better understanding of the barriers and hardships encountered by this demographic.
• Fundraise for local and national refugee support charities.
• Campaign against policy change and human rights violations when it comes to migrant issues.
• Improve equal access to higher education for refugees and asylum seekers by providing support for refugees accessing higher education, including those in the community and those currently studying at Plymouth University, to integrate into the university lifestyle.
• Provide peer support to refugees joining the university; this will include academic support, social support, and administrative help.
