Welcome to the University of Plymouth Athletics Club!!
UPAC offers opportunities for training in all abilities, whether you have never competitively run before, or are an experienced runner, our club intends to support you every step of the way.
Our club has a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and everyone is welcome! We have a range of athletes at our club, from triathletes, complete novices, to sprinters and marathoners. (so yes really anything goes here)
If you're feeling keen we give our members opportunities to compete throughout the year, both on track, in cross country, hill and local road races. We compete in BUCS every year, and have a very soft spot for the Cross Country in February. UPAC can guarantee a great time, spectating or racing and we love a good boogie at the afterparty! :)
If you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch via Facebook, Instagram or the email below. There will be a Whatsapp group set up further into first term to make sure no-one is left out of the loop.

Social Runs
These are very chatty and usually end up at a pub of some kind! Weekday social runs range from 5-15km and are an aerobic pace.
If you're worried about being a beginner or are just super speedy, we can assure you we still want you to come and give it a go! There are groups within the social run that have different paces and there is always something for everyone, and we want to help you take that initial jump into running whether you're brand new or seasoned. If you have any questions please contact Mabel or Claudia through our UPAC Instagram.
Tuesdays: 19:00 (meet at SU roof at 18:50)
Thursdays: 19:00 (meet at SU roof at 18:50)
Sundays: 10:00 (meet at SU roof at 09:50) - this tends to be a longer run around Saltram where we stop for coffee and cake midway through.
Socials
We have socials every other week in the club with varying themes throughout Fresher’s Week, as well as sober socials such as pottery painting, mini golf and meals after training. This year, we want to focus on having bigger socials with links to other clubs and having a balance alongside academics and athletics.
At UPAC, we do enjoy a good night out as a club and have a partnership with Fishies, so show us your best moves on a Wednesday Sports night at Revs!
We also go to Roundabout on a Wednesday before Fishies for our discounted pints and go to the Crafy Half/ and or JSV on a Thursday for £2.50 doubles...
UPAC have a formal meal at Christmas where everyone dresses to impress with prizes throughout (although none are serious). We pride ourselves on being an approachable and friendly club and have won most social club in the sports awards for our performances in intramural events.
We can't wait to meet you all :)
Lots of love,
Mabel and Claudia xxxx
(your Chair and Secretary)
Events
We participate at a Varsity in Exeter during both terms which is a great chance to compete against local universities. We also send a team to BUCS cross country and indoor track competitions annually, with the option of attending the BUCS outdoor athletics meet too. We highly recommend attending this event as it’s a great opportunity for a fun weekend away!
Every month we attend the Westward cross country league (October-March), and compete in local road races, including the Plymouth 10k and the Half Marathon in May.
This year we hope to attend more Parkruns throughout Plymouth and the surrounding area!
All events are open to everyone to enter or to come along and cheer other members on! If you don’t want to compete don’t worry we aren’t competition crazy. See our race schedule calendar attached for more information on upcoming events to enter. This will be updated as the year progresses.
Fundraising and Volunteering
Throughout the year we have the opportunity to take part in fundraisers and volunteering events. In the past we have run cake sales, charity runs, and athletics relevant tasks on the SU roof to raise money for charity. A lot of previous members of the club have entered the Plymouth Half Marathon to raise money for their own causes.
