Plymouth Blitz invites you to join the family! Our team is open to players of all abilities and ages, whether American Football is new to you, or if you've played before. One of the best aspects of American Football is that there are positions for people of all body types and athletic abilities, so you can play to your strengths! We understand that many won't have played American Football before and that's why we train everyone from the ground up, meaning that everyone starts the season at the same level, giving everyone the opportunity for game time.
Our Season and Schedule:
• We compete in 5 regular season games against our Division 2 opponents: Aberystwyth Tarannau, Bath Spa Bulldogs, Gloucester Gladiators, UWE Bullets 2, and Worcester Royals. There are additional games if we make the playoffs
• We play one preseason game against an out of division teams to help sharpen skills before the season begins.
• Training sessions are held twice a week, with an additional team gym session on Wednesdays. We also have occasional Sunday sessions when we don't have a game to ensure we stay sharp.
• All training sessions are run by qualified coaches who are dedicated to helping you reach your football potential.
• At the end of the season, we welcome back our alumni to compete in a charity match
Social Events:
• We host weekly socials on Wednesday nights, often with other societies to add some extra fun, and usually with a theme! These are great opportunities to take a break from the stresses of uni life, bond with your teammates, and get to know other clubs.
• The team often gathers on Sundays at Roundabout to watch the NFL, which helps improve our knowledge of the sport and strengthens team bonds.
• We also host sober socials (movie nights, bowling, laser tag, cinema)
Events:
• IronFest is a great night with lots of hype where the team encourages each other and works on hitting personal bests.
• Annually, we embark on an optional tour abroad, providing a fantastic opportunity to socialize with other sports teams and play American football on the beach.
• Participate in our annual media day photoshoot for headshots and team photos in kit, preparing for the upcoming season, and be part of the formal end-of-season photo with the entire team.
• Enjoy our two annual black-tie events: a festive Christmas meal and the prestigious End of Year Awards, where coaches and players gather for a celebratory dinner.
Membership and Benefits:
• Membership costs £90 per term (£180 for the year), which covers the cost of equipment (helmet, shoulder pads, and lower pads), training facilities, first aid equipment, pitch hire, and transport to away games. It also includes game day fees, kit hire, training, referees, medics, preseason, and a team gym session.
• We have players with experience across Europe, including teams in Sweden, Finland, and Germany, and a player from the GB Women's American Football program.
• Our team boasts an in-depth coaching staff with positional coaches for each group, ensuring personalized coaching to help develop new players quickly. For new members, the only kit you need to provide is a gum shield, football boots with studs, and water.
