About UPBC 

Come and join the Badminton club at the University of Plymouth!

We aim to create an all-inclusive environment for all abilities, so if you've only just picked up a racket or looking for some competitive matches, everyone is welcome! Our friendly committee work on providing a relaxed and social club that gives all our members a fun and safe place to meet new people and enjoy a game of badminton. Whether you're a keen sportsman looking to join the team and get some practice in a few times a week, or just hoping to join a club, meet new friends and rock up for a social each week, the badminton club is for you!

Session Times

We hold three weekly sessions at Nancy Astor Sports Hall (on Campus). Two of these sessions are for team members only, and the other session is for social players:

Team Training sessions for 23/24 

• Mondays 19:00 - 21:00 (Team only*) with coaching | Starts 2nd October 2023

• Fridays 20:00 - 22:00 (Team only*)

*Club session (you MUST be invited and paid for the team membership to attend these sessions) 

Casual sessions

• Saturdays 11:00 - 13:00 (All members)

Pricing

Our standard membership is only £20 per annum (courts and shuttles provided).

Social players who get the standard membership pay just £2 per session paid on the day you attend.

Social players who don't wish to get a membership can still attend the casual sessions for £4 per session paid on the day on a pay-as-you-go basis. 

Anyone who wants to join the social sessions can attend one free session before paying.

If you are selected for the team, the team membership is £60 per annum paid in addition to the standard membership, covering Badminton England Membership, courts, shuttles, and the additional sessions.*

• Standard Club Membership £20 per annum

• Team Membership £60 per annum

*Note: you must have paid for both the standard and team membership if you get selected for the team 

Purchasing Your Membership:

1. Follow our Instagram page and find us on the Lounge app to get notifications of all the latest information about the club

2. Go to the "Shop" tab above

3. Add your chosen UPBC membership to your basket

4. Checkout and you're now a UPBC member!

*Note: Memberships are available to purchase as of 01/10/23

*Note: social/ casual sessions and pay-as-you-go sessions have an additional fee paid on the day at the session you attend by card (see above for details)

Socials

We aim to have fun interactive social events so you can meet new people and enjoy yourself. If you have any ideas about social events that we could put on as a club, please don't hesitate to contact us on our social media pages on Facebook/Instagram or email us!

Trials & Team info

Team trials/tryouts are held at the start of the academic year. Keep an eye on our social media for specific dates and other updates. The club has 3 Men's teams, 1 Ladies' team and a Medley team (mixed) that regularly compete in the Plymouth Badminton League. Our Men's A team also take part in BUCS and the mixed team plays in the Beckley Cup. 

Trial dates 23/24

Monday 25th September 19:00 - 21:00 (everyone welcome)

Saturday 30th September 11:00 - 13:00 (invite only)

Team coaching

Coaching takes place on Monday team sessions 19:00 - 21:00 and is run by Rob Freer.
