About
UPCC prides itself in creating a welcoming and friendly environment to all players, no matter their ability, experience, gender or age. Although we are not the biggest club at the University, we are always growing and expanding; especially with the ever more popular Ladies’ section. We offer a fantastic opportunity for anyone to learn and improve their skills with indoor training twice a week. Two Men's and a Ladies indoor team play in local leagues over the winter period, which include social events all year round! We encourage all abilities to give it a go, from those who have never played before to learn a new sport and to have fun, to those who want to play competitively in BUCS.
To get all the latest information for training and social events, you must be on the Plymouth Cricket Freshers 2024/25 facebook page that will be active from the 18th of September: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61564634613124
Socials
Throughout the year we have plenty of social events where we go out as a club and have a few (too many) drinks. They are a big part of all clubs and societies and our cricket socials are up there with the best thanks to sponsorships from the best pubs and clubs in Plymouth! We offer socials to integrate you as part of the club right from the start, come over to our stall at the sports freshers fair for the details of the social we have planned for that night! We also have lots of joint socials with other societies, (in the past these have featured the pole dancing and cheerleading societies) and plenty of fancy dress! If there's one thing you can say about UPCC, we do love a dress up. All the socials are great fun and will provide endless hilarious memories, so don't miss out!
Events
As a club, we had an extremely good year in the indoor competitions. The men's 1st and 2nd teams won both their leagues, and they also beat Solent University and Bournemouth University in the BUCS 50 over competition! We have also recently entered our womens team into a mixed league, where they enjoy getting a good level of match play each Sunday. However, one thing that is always guaranteed in this club, we know how to have fun and and how to enjoy a few drinks after games aswell. At the club, we value our off field abilities just as much as our on field ones. Although, that’s not to say that we don’t take our cricket very seriously and have high ambitions and expectations of ourselves. There is ample cricket available to both the Men and Ladies thoughout the year.
As well as cricketing events, we regularly have club days that include bingo and Tenpin Bowling. To further our club ambitions to develop, we are looking to start up a 5-a-side football team that plays in a student league at the local Goals facility. This is a good opportunity for people to keep up fitness levels.
Finally, this year we will be looking to operate a tour to somewhere sunny and that involves zero cricket whatsoever. Previous tours have been to Split and Kavos etc., with Ayia Napa and Sunny Beach on the cards for this year.
