Founded in 2000, the University of Plymouth Rowing Club is a rapidly growing and developing squad of athletes. We cater for complete novices to experienced oarsmen and women. UPRC is based at Dart Totnes Rowing Club, where we have water sessions up to 3 times per week with a professional coach! We also run a 4 week 'Learn 2 Row' course which can introduce you to the club, its members and the sport. All members are provided with a non-mandatory land-based training programme of gym sessions, group circuits and activities. This will create a social environment to better team ethos and fitness. Recent years have proven to be the best ever for UPRC! If you want to meet a great group of people and get involved in an amazing sport, we’re the club for you.
Coxing
Try coxing with UPRC and join a friendly and lively society. Coxing is a great way to develop confidence and leadership or put your existing skills to use. Whether you have coxed at Henley or are a complete novice, with help from our experienced coaches, coxes and rowers you will become the best (and loudest!) of coxswains. There are plenty of opportunities to get out on the water, during training and races throughout the year and also lots of fun to be had off the water at the weekly socials.
Socials
Socials are a vital part of UPRC as they develop a sense of teamwork and friendship within the club. We hold weekly socials (typically on a Wednesday night) at different student venues in Plymouth such as Switch, Walkabout, The SU and Pryzm. Highlights of the year are the Christmas and Handover meal, as well as countless fancy dress events. We also hold non-drinking socials such as bowling, paintball, and much much more; great for those that are not necessarily interested in alcohol. Everyone is welcome!
Events
Every year the UPRC run Christmas and Easter camps, these are great opportunities to improve your rowing ability before the big races in the new year. We compete at local and national events organised by British Rowing and West of England Amateur Rowing Association. Our aim over the next year is to increase the number of boats we enter at each competition! The two biggest events of the year are BUCS Head (20th & 21st of February) and BUCS Regatta (30th April - 2nd May), both involve a great weekend away racing against Universities from all over the country, always finished off by a huge social!
