Meet like-minded people and discover new communities

You're joining a friendly, diverse and passionate group of 19,000+ students. Coming to University can feel scary, intimidating and - at times - isolating. For many of you this is an entirely new beginning and finding the people who will help you shape that will be one of your biggest priorities.

Welcome is a time to dip your toe in the water and meet new people, embrace new experiences and learn more about yourself. One of the ways you can meet likeminded people is by joining a student group (clubs and societies) or a network.

By joining a student group or signing up to a network you can...

  • Meet people on your course by joining an academic society
  • Get outdoors with an adventure club
  • Connect with your cultural community by joining a faith or culture-based society
  • Use your voice to shape your University experience
  • Make a difference to the local community by volunteering or getting involved with fundraising
  • Explore Britain's Ocean City by signing up to a water-based club

Access support at University

Studying away from home means facing new challenges and knowing where to find the right support is important. Starting University and perhaps moving away from home for the first time can be intimidating. It's perfectly natural to feel apprehensive, nervous or overwhelmed.

The most important thing to remember is that you are not alone. Thousands of others are in exactly the same boat and will be feeling similar emotions, support is on hand.
